Daley Blind is doing well but will not train with Ajax until the cause of his collapse during Tuesday’s friendly against Hertha BSC has been determined, club officials said on Wednesday.
Blind, who is 30, had defibrillator implanted in his chest earlier this year after being diagnosed with a heart muscle inflammation in December. He was unable to play for two months but has since been given the all clear.
‘The central defender is feeling well, given the circumstances, and was at Sportpark de Toekomst this morning,’ Ajax said in a short statement. ‘He will undergo further examinations and await the results of these tests before resuming training.’
The Dutch international collapsed 10 minutes before time but was able to leave the pitch of his own accord after being attended by medics. Ajax trainer Erik ten Hag said after the game that Blind’s defibrillator had gone off
Ajax has two more friendlies on the cards in the coming week against Eintracht Frankfurt and Union Berlin (zondag), before the season begins with a match against newly-promoted Sparta Rotterdam on September 13.
